Dressing Nifty After 50

That sounds like a title I would have made up, but the book featured in this SquidLit lens isn't anything I have the talent to write. In fact, I need all the help I can get when it comes to fashion and style, especially at my age. Looks like Dressing Nifty After Fifty is exactly the book - and the Squidoo lens - that I need.

Lensmaster BooBooBear points out in her lens that women over 50 have neither the time nor the patience to fool with their wardrobes. Taking some time to apply the information in this book would make my life easier, I am sure. "I have nothing to wear!" is a complaint that I voice all too often, usually while standing in my all-too-full closet. I know that I need to follow the author's advice. I also know that I really need that adorable black dress that BooBooBear included on her lens!

I haven't read the book yet, but I suspect it would be helpful to a woman of any age in coordinating her wardrobe and cleaning out her closet. I'm especially looking forward to the tidbits that apply to choosing age-appropriate clothing, something that is definitely an issue for me. Check out this lens and this book. I think we'll really enjoy it.

P.S. While you're updating your wardrobe, you might want to check out another book featured by BooBooBear called How Not to Look Old. More good advice for baby boomer women.

Laugh Lines Don't Count as Wrinkles!

Now, why did I come in here? Oh, now I remember. I wanted to tell you about a brand new lens, created by request from, uh, moi by lensmaster Poddys, called Jokes for Baby Boomers. Even if you're not a baby boomer, you'll laugh at these jokes and funny one-liners that have particular meaning to those of us in the slightly older generation.

I'm going to quote from another of Poddys' lenses to tell you why this lens is important. "Some good clean jokes, something to make us laugh, is often the best medicine for sadness, to combat stress, and to relieve what might otherwise be a boring or tedious day." How true! And how especially pertinent to baby boomers and senior citizens, who can be very prone to sadness and stress that sometimes tend to go along with aging.

We all know that laughter is the best medicine (I read that in Reader's Digest, so I know it's true) so if you're feeling poorly, check out Poddys' jokes lenses. And, baby boomers, remember this: Laugh lines don't count as wrinkles!

P.S. Since I brought it up, check out Laughter, The Best Medicine II

More Classic Television for Baby Boomers

Bonnie, aka lensmaster JustBonCrochetDesigns, has done it again with, as she says, her homage to television at its best, the 1960s British TV series, The Avengers.

If you don't remember John Steed and Emma Peel from the show's long run from 1961 to 1969, you've probably seen them in syndication since then. There's just something very special about this pair of secret agents and their great style. Patrick McNee and Diana Rigg are the actors most remember, though there were others in the show's history as thoroughly documented in this lens.

If you're a fan of The Avengers or of terrific British television, you will love this lens. If you're among the unindoctrinated, be sure to check it out and watch the clips. If you're still not convinced, at least check out the "Kinky Boots."

Take Me Back to the Glam Old Days

I wasn't into music much in the 1970s. I liked to listen but didn't know much about what I was listening to. Thanks to lensmaster JustBonCrochetDesigns, I know a whole lot more now than I ever did then.

Block Buster! British Glam Rock of the 70s is an amazing compilation of music history. On the lens you can find out exactly what is meant by Glam rock, or glitter rock, and when and how it came about and how it developed and then died out. Some of the artists you will certainly recognize, but others will not be so familiar. Watch and listen to the videos that are included to get a taste of glam and a wonderful blast from the past. This is really an outstanding lens, a well put-together glimpse into baby boomer history.

For even more about music from the 70s, check out JustBonCrochetDesigns' 70s Music Lensography. If it was music in the 1970s, good chance it's included on a lens listed here.

Helpful Gadgets for Baby Boomers

This baby boomer loves gadgets, especially gadgets that are practical, sensible, and really improve quality of life. Lensmaster beeobrien has gathered a lensful of the best practical gadgets for baby boomers on her Squidoo lens Cool Gadgets for Baby Boomers.

These aren't old-fashioned, nostalgic gadgets but, instead, very practical, innovative gadgets to help simplify our lives. I have to say that my most favorite item on the page is really cool. It's the Cool Touch Oven Rack Guard pictured here, something that I could really use in my kitchen.

One caution when you visit this lens. Allow sufficient time to check out the nostalgic and hilarious videos that beeobrien has included, as well as the links to other excellent websites designed especially for those of us in the baby boomer age group. They're great!

Regrets. I've had a few.

Your regrets will be too few to mention if you heed the advice of lensmaster Marelisa and stop putting your dreams off for "some day." Instead, make a list of your 100 Things to Do Before You Die, your very own Bucket List.

Featuring the movie by the same name, the lens includes categories of activities you might want to add to your list. From sports to learning languages, to meeting famous people, I'm guessing that you (and I) will now be able to come up with a 100-item list pretty quickly by following the advice and using the resources on this outstanding lens.

Baby boomers of all ages will enjoy this lens. If you think you're too old (or too young) to make a Bucket List, Marelisa has just proved that you are wrong. So, what are you waiting for? Get started on your Bucket List before you regret it.

I Wanted to Grow Up to be Perry Mason

That would have been a little tricky for this baby boomer girl, but I loved Perry Mason as I was growing up and read every "The Case of . . ." book by Erle Stanley Gardner that was on our library's shelves, and that was most of them.

I love this Perry Mason lens by lensmaster KimGiancaterino featuring the original Perry Mason television series. I'm a big fan of black & white photos and, naturally, they're used extensively throughout this lens as Perry Mason debuted on black & white TV in 1957.

What a great, well-laid out, informative, beautiful lens. Perfect for nostalgic baby boomers!

Menopause Isn't Funny!

Yes, it is, and lensmaster clouda9 proves it in her great lens called Menopause: You Need Some Laughter! Want to know how many women with menopause it takes to change a lightbulb? Check out this lens to find out - and I think you'll agree. (That's my favorite part of the lens - this time through!)

As clouda9 points out, laughter is the best medicine and if this lens doesn't keep you laughing, then you're just not old enough to "get it"!

(Sometimes menopause really isn't a laughing matter. If you're at that stage and need to know more about menopause, you might want to check out another of clouda9's lenses, Menopause: Your Symptoms and Choices for some very practical help and information.)

Can You Hear Me Now, Baby Boomer?

You don't have to be a baby boomer to have hearing loss, but certainly that is a consideration for many of us as we age. Lensmaster mulberry has put together a lens that may be very helpful for any baby boomers with decreased hearing.

The lens is all about Amplified Phones and on the lens mulberry explains different types of amplified phones and the features you should be aware of when considering purchasing one. According to figures provided on the lens, 30 percent of adults ages 65 to 74 have some measurable hearing loss, and we baby boomers are edging quickly into that age group.

The lens includes resources for the deaf and hard of hearing, so if you need information now or in the future about hearing loss, check out mulberry's informative lens.

P.S. Mulberry also has a lens about Cell Phones for the Hearing Impaired, including hearing aid-compatible cell phones. If your baby boomer needs a cell phone, please check the great information on this page before you buy!
